An Irish documentary that chronicles the momentous occasion of John F. Kennedy’s visit to Galway on June 29th, 1963, has earned a prominent place in the lineup of the 12th Dublin International Short Film and Music Festival.

Directed by Galway native Pamela Finn, the documentary expertly captures the electric atmosphere that swept through the local community during Kennedy’s visit, as witnessed by those who were present on that historic day. The people of Galway were afforded a rare chance to revel in a sense of anticipation and interact with a figure as eminent as the President of the United States, who famously dubbed his time in Ireland as “the best four days of his life.”
Pamela Finn, the documentary’s director, a proud Galway native, received well-deserved acclaim for her exceptional work. She was honoured with the prestigious title of Best Director at the Washington DC International Cinema Festival. Additionally, the film received an Honourable Mention at the Athens International Monthly Arts Film Festival and the notable accolade of Best Documentary Short at the Cannes Film Festival.
“JFK: The Three Miles” had the unique distinction of dual premieres, captivating audiences on both sides of the Atlantic. The documentary made its debut at Pálás Cinema in Ireland on June 24, 2023, followed by a screening at Galway City Museum on June 29, 2023, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of President Kennedy’s momentous visit to Galway. The culmination of its premiere journey took place at the JFK Hyannis Museum in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, on June 30, 2023, in a location cherished by the Kennedy family.
Following these premieres, the documentary will continue to engage audiences, with screenings hosted by the Dublin International Short Film and Music Festival on October 6th at 8:00 PM at Cineworld and on October 8th at 5:30 PM at The Sugar Club.
This documentary reignites the memory of his extraordinary journey through Galway and pays tribute to the enduring legacy of President John F. Kennedy, whose influence continues to captivate and inspire generations.
